Welcome to Atlanta, home of the world’s most traveled airport.

When visiting Atlanta, you don’t want to miss out on the ATL Airport District, which is nestled just between the airport and Downtown Atlanta. Over the years, it has become a hub for rich food and entertainment—and it is continually growing, bringing both time-honored Atlanta traditions and modern flair to the mix.

Let’s take a closer look:

The Ongoing Evolution of ATL Airport District

Atlanta is undoubtedly a conduit for domestic and international transport, but many travelers are missing out on one of the city’s most cherished centers of culture, character, and culinary mastery. The area is collectively known as the ATL Airport District, and it encompasses College Park, Hapeville, and Union City.

What you’ll find here is more than a typical tourist destination. It’s a spot that’s treasured by locals, offering everything from immersive local experiences to some of the most amazing cuisine, much of it coming from the kitchens of Black-owned restaurants.

Over the years, the ATL Airport District has grown and evolved. It was originally formed more than a decade ago in 2013, and at the time was largely focused on College Park. As the District expanded, so did its reputation as a cultural and culinary hub of Atlanta.

Today, the ATL Airport District is home to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, metro-Atlanta's second largest convention center, more than 7,000 hotel rooms, and a never-ending blend of art, culture, and cuisine.

A Culinary Hotspot For Black-Owned Restaurants

The ATL Airport District has earned an impressive culinary reputation, with local eateries featuring an incredible range of cuisines. In Atlanta, it’s not just about the food itself: It’s also about the culture, the history of the flavors, how each dish is heritage on a plate, and how so many of the local restaurateurs serve food from the heart.

And there’s a little bit of something for everyone with the District’s lineup of Black-owned restaurants—from soul food and pizza, to vegan cuisine and Caribbean-inspired grub.
