EatOkra is more than a food discovery app. We bring together the Black-owned restaurants, cafes, and food makers worth knowing, and the diners ready to show up for them. For 10 years, we've made finding your next favorite spot easy — and supporting it even easier.
In 2016, husband and wife Anthony and Janique Edwards moved into a new Brooklyn apartment with no way to cook or store food. So they started eating out, looking for places that felt warm and familiar, with food they already loved and dishes they'd grow to love.
They wanted an easier way to find and support the Black-owned spots around them. So they built it themselves, and called it EatOkra.
Stages, screens, and partnerships that put diners, chefs, and owners at the same table.

Okra traveled from West Africa to the Americas during the slave trade. In Black kitchens, it became the ingredient that holds the pot together, binding soups, stews, and gumbo. That's what we hope to do for Black food: bring it all to one table. Our logo is an okra pod sliced open, and each of its five seeds stands for a value we carry.
