I’m new to the area and want to try every restaurant in Atlanta. I decided to visit Southern Fire Kitchen after hearing mixed reviews about the food. Initially, I called the restaurant to inquire whether I needed a reservation, and I was told no. However, after reading the reviews, I chose to make a reservation online.
When I arrived, I was promptly seated. The service was good, and the atmosphere was excellent! I ordered the lamb chops, mac and cheese, collard greens, and a peach lemon drop cocktail.
The first thing I noticed was the large stems in the collard greens and the heavy seasoning smothering the lamb chops. Unfortunately, the lamb chops were mostly fat and had an unusual twangy taste. The collard greens were too vinegary and not cooked thoroughly. On a positive note, the mac and cheese was phenomenal—cheesy and delicious! The peach lemon drop cocktail was also fantastic.
Overall, while I appreciated some aspects of the experience, I regret to say that I will not be returning. The lamb chops caused both my coworker and me to have upset stomachs and nausea for the rest of the night. As a female from the south and who cook soul food for others to enjoy, I can say that this food was not soulful. I'll give 2 stars for the mac and cheese and the peach lemon drop only!
